I used to have this moment at every college party where I would stare into the crowd of young people like myself and remember that death was waiting for all of us. No matter how vibrant the drunken revelry was around me, that moment never ceased to catch me off guard and briefly paralyzed with desolation. The people would become detached actors, the stage would be revealed as the cheap apartment that it was, and I would find myself suddenly alone.
